Ethics Awards

The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Orlando Regional Chapter is proud to recognize outstanding local ethical practices with its annual PRSA Orlando/Frank R. Stansberry Ethics Award. Created in 2005, the award is named after local public relations professional, professor and mentor Frank Stansberry.

The PRSA Orlando Frank R. Stansberry Ethics Award

Throughout his 30-year career of public relations, as well as 10 years in print media, Stansberry served as president of PRSA's Orlando Chapter, chair of its Sunshine District and as a member of its national board of directors. Stansberry's career is highlighted by his outspoken advocacy for the highest ethical standards in business practice, and his dedication to ethics in public relations has had a profound impact on thousands of young professionals who studied with him throughout his tenure at the University of Central Florida.

PRSA is committed to adhering to the highest standards of ethical practice. Because public trust is the foundation of successful public relations, PRSA members have adopted a Member Code of Ethics. The organization views its code as a model for other professions, organizations and professionals.

The Frank R. Stansberry Ethics Award is presented annually at a special PRSA luncheon in September as part of PRSA’s National Ethics Month. Look for details coming soon about how to submit a nomination and the deadline for this year’s award. The Orlando Regional Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) announced the 2009 recipients of the Frank R. Stansberry Ethics Awards at a luncheon on Sept. 17, 2009. Karen A. Breakell (left), director of community and public relations for Nemours, received the award for individual merit from chapter President Kena L. Lewis (center). Breakell is a veteran public-relations practitioner whose dedication to ethical conduct guided her advocacy on behalf of Nemours as it sought state approval to build a children’s hospital in Central Florida, said Lewis. Grant Lacerte (right), vice president and general counsel for Kissimmee Utility Authority, accepted the award for organizational merit on behalf of KUA. Lewis praised the utility’s commitment to an honest and ethical corporate culture that makes it a leader among area businesses. The Stansberry Awards are given annually by the Orlando chapter of PRSA to recognize best ethical practices by businesses and individuals.
